Does your child want to work on a passion based project? The research fellows program at Baden Academy is expanding again this year. We will accept a total of 18 projects (some of which are afterschool clubs or team competitions).
All 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Baden Academy Charter School students can apply to be a Research Fellow. The application deadline for this year’s program in August 29, 2014. Once all the applications have been received, we will pick 18 projects (some of them team projects) to try to complete this year. Each project must provide a benefit to our school, the community or the world. Staff will spend the week of Sept. 1 choosing the projects. Research Fellow pull outs will begin on Sept. 8.
Students working on books and websites will meet Mondays from 1:45-2:30.
Students working on movies, screencasts, and computer technology teams will meet Wednesday from 1:45-2:30.
Students working on engineering and programming projects will meet Friday from 1:45-2:30. (Friday students will stay on half days and need picked up at 3:30 on Fridays there is a half day).
An Environment Club will be meeting after school. Depending on the applications, we may have additional clubs.
Students will miss part of their regularly scheduled curriculum if they are in the lab. It is your child’s responsibility to keep up with assigned work. The 45 minutes that Mrs. Walaan and I will work with their group each week is the only classroom time scheduled for them on their research fellow project. Many after school and at home hours are needed to realize the project’s success. Parent involvement is crucial for successful projects.
– I will be here during open house and available through email if you want to run a question or idea past me.
– If you haven’t already, get your application in. If you have a project that you wish to continue and we have already talked, just note that on the application. Previous research fellows do not need to get a letter of recommendation but they do need to submit an application.
– Let me know if you need help generating ideas. I am hoping to see a number of projects continue into this year, but I know we will get some outstanding new ideas.
– Send your popcorn thoughts and ideas my way. Anytime you see a need, a pet peeve, a grant for funding, or a fun opportunity, please let us know. We will try to incorporate it in our plans.
AN IDEA FROM MRS. ABIDILLA…
Is there a group of friends who have an interest in creating some instruments out of trash, performing, and partnering with some overseas musicians? Watch the below video for inspiration.
It will be an exciting year. Let the applications come! ~ Dr. Ellen
