Introducing Alice Programming

Dear Virtual World Parents,

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope the holiday finds you and your children safe and warm, surrounded by a loving family.

After the sledding adventures have exhausted your kids, and before you grow frustrated that they are spending too much time ‘playing’ games, challenge them to create them.

We have started to program in Alice, creating a 3D view of the virtual worlds the students created. Alice is an innovative programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. It is available as a free download and has tutorials that make learning to program fun.

We are using Alice 2.2 in class. You can download for either a Mac or Windows computer.

There are five tutorials that are part of the installation.  If your kids want to learn more, CS2N has a wonderful introductory course.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday break.

Dr. Ellen
